Long-time followers of this blog know that I first named it "Xiao Bei in the Da Bei." Primarily, it was a pun on my experience living in Beijing. However, times (and locations) change, enough so that my Beijing-based title had to go.抛砖引玉, my current blog title, is a reflection of the more general mission of this blog. In simple terms it means, "just tossing a thought/idea out there," which is generally all I'm doing when I'm writing my posts (for a more detailed explanation, click the Chinese characters). My agenda typically extends no further than sharing my observations of China so that people may have yet another angle from which to view this perplexing society. I hope that my musings will inspire research, conversation, and thoughtful debate. Most of all, I hope my blog will help people understand my inexplicable love for the Middle Kingdom.
